Houseboats of Kerala are the magnificent icon of the state’s rich and glorious heritage. A serene Houseboat voyage across the greenish backwaters of Kerala could be the most enchanting experience one can ever come across in life. The fascinating vista of swaying palms, green lagoons, sun kissed shores and tiny hamlets along the backwaters will slowly unfold the real mystic beauty of God’s own country. During the bygone ages, Houseboats of Kerala or Kettuvallams in vernacular, were giant cargo vessels that carried spices, rice and coconuts from isolated villages to faraway towns for trade purposes. But later, by the advent of roads, bridges and ferry services, the Houseboats of Kerala or Kettuvallams gradually went off the scene and now these wooden marvels has been turned out to the most beautiful traditional piece of craft that woos lakhs of tourists to Kerala.
